Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) therapy is used at home to support patients with various breathing and lung issues. BiPAP, similar to CPAP, features a hose that connects to a full face NIV mask which is worn over your nose and mouth.
BiPAP ventilators use positive pressure to push air into your lungs. BiPAP helps open the lungs and prevents lungs from collapsing. Hence improving the level of oxygen absorption by lungs and decreasing the carbon dioxide.
BiPAP is a “bilevel” because they have two air pressure settings:
Inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP).
Expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP).
